The Villa Stuck is one of the most important operating artist houses in Europe.  Franz von Stuck conceived the structure as a total art piece at the end of the 19th century. Today the artist villa is a starting point for a unique modern museum experience.
All sections of the museum open themselves to a dialogue and lend the Stuck Villa its distinction as unique artistic place: artistic villa, collections, rotating exhibits, training program, and service center combine to offer the visitor new perspectives.
The collections arrange the works of Franz von Stuck and the international Art Nouveau according to themes. The schedule takes the artistic and cultural variety of the 19th century into consideration, e.g. exhibits on art of the 19th century and the fin de siecle, displays of selected artistic trends of the 20th century, as well as rotating exhibits on contemporary art. Its publications and broad range of research projects make the Villa Stuck a site for international research. The innovative training and activity schedule, especially for youth, open the house to all types of group visits.

In 1897/98 Munich’s artistic prince Franz von Stuck (1863-1928) had the villa built near the Angel of Peace on the high bank of the Isar River. The structure uses his design based on ancient models. The luxurious interiors, private residence, and the representative artistic studio all reflect the general artistic career of Franz von Stuck. It rates as one of the highlights of artistic houses.  Not many monuments present a similar blend of stage design, beauty, and mystery.  The furniture designed by the artist won a gold medal at the 1900 World Fair in Paris. The generously-decorated studio building opened in 1915 to bring the total impression of the complex to perfection. An artistic garden is hidden behind the building. It unites classic models from Pompeii with the art works of the 19th century. After Stuck’s death in 1928 the family resided there making various changes until the 1960s.  Hans-Joachim and Amélie Ziersch began the first renovation in 1965 and donated the house for operation as a museum to the Stuck-Art Nouveau-Society in 1967. Combining dedicated local involvement and political diplomacy, negotiations provided that the artistic villa become a donation to the state capital of Munich
